Products I Regret Buying #1

14 January 2015

2014 was my year for beauty. However there are always some bumps along the way. No one wants to buy a product only to find out they later hate it, or it simply doesn't work. So, as negative as these posts are to write, I find them really useful. Of course these are just my opinions, some of these products may in fact work for you!

I'm going to start off this post with two purse-sized fragrances from The Body Shop. The first is White Musk Smoky Rose. To tell you the truth, I don't know why I bought this. I didn't like it when I smelled it in store, but reviews noted how sexy it was. All I got was licorice, sadly the note I detect in gone-off perfume!! I expected to warm to it, but it just didn't happen.

The next scent is funnily enough another White Musk flanker. This time it is the feminine sounding White Musk Libertine. I liked this when I sampled it a while ago in store, and bought it blind after reading reviews saying how lovely it was. I don't get rose or chantilly cream notes at all, rather it is a very old fashioned, strong perfume scent. I was really disappointed in this as it smelled completely different to the one instore.

Next up is a product I've already reviewed, and that is the bumble and bumble Surf Spray. This is a light salt spray with a lovely, beachy scent. However I don't find it does much for my hair. I'm still waiting to fall in love with this pricey product.

I bought LUSH Superbalm on a whim and thought it would be the answer to my flaky scalp. I found it really hard to wash out of my hair so it made my roots really greasy. Also it's main ingredient is coconut oil, so this totally could have been a DIY job! I only used this product once as my scalp hasn't been as dry. Either this product has worked wonders or a change to a more moisturising shampoo has done the job. I definitely feel that this was a waste of money.

Onto beauty now and one product I've recently blogged about is the Revlon Photoready Primer in my Primer Edit. This made any base I put on top really cakey and didn't really curb any oil production for me. Disappointing performance for a pricey product from the drugstore.

Another product I've mentioned recently in my Mascara Edit is the Rimmel Wonder'full Mascara. This has Argan oil in the formula, meaning it is more conditioning for the lashes. It gives a really defined look but not even 10% of the volume I'd expect from a mascara. Definitely one for no-makeup makeup days.

The Collection Work The Colour Eyeshadow Pencils really caught my eye before I finally bought them as part of a promo. Swatched, these lasted FOREVER on my hand, but unfortunately the pencils dried up almost immediately so I really struggled to get the colour onto the lids.

The final product I'll mention is the Tanya Burr Lipgloss in First Date, but this is not strictly a bad product. I just can't work with the shade as it is so pale and pigmented. It just doesn't look right on my lips, and I feel it would be lovely if it were more sheer! The only way I can use this is using the tiniest amount of product on a lip brush! However I do love Tanya, and I much prefer Picnic In The Park, and have Chic on my wishlist. I've gotta mention the divine strawberry scent too.

Are there any products you regret buying?

  1. How does the Tanya Burr lipglosses compare to other lipgloss? I never know if I believe the Youtubers since they are all friends :)

    1. The only other one I have is Picnic in the Park, which is a little more sheer than First Date. These two are pretty pigmented for glosses though! They have a lovely scent too and I don't find them too sticky. Like I said, I only disliked this because of the shade, I have no idea about the brighter ones though. Hope that helped!

  2. I completely agree with you on The Body Shop's White Musk range. I love their musk oil and it's exactly what musk should smell like (in my opinion at least) but the rest of the white musk range is really disappointing. Your description pretty much summarizes my opinion on it.
I haven't tried the Bumble and Bumble products because I was never sold on it, same with the Revlon Primer.

As for the Tanya Burr lipgloss, I have the shades Aurora and Afternoon Tea. Afternoon Tea is extremely pale, pretty much how you described First Date- and it makes me looks like a corpse. But formula wise and scent wise, I really like them :) Aurora is my favourite so far!

    1. Thanks Dee, so glad I'm not the only one that thinks some of these aren't great!

On the lipgloss front, I think Aurora would be a nice shade too, I'll have to check it out next time I go to Superdrug :)
