This month saw Birchbox collaborate with good old homeware brand, Habitat. I was excited to see what goodies they would bring, as I'm really interested in interior design right now. The theme? Do try this at home! So let's get started! Here's the unboxing of my March Birchbox.
Benefit Roller Lash (£19.50)
I was a bit disappointed when I first got the email saying there would be a Benefit Mascara, as I'd tried all the options, and I like to see new items in my Birchbox. However I was happy I got my choice as I'm enjoying Roller Lash, and I'm happy I've got a back up so I don't have to pay £19.50 when my current sample runs out.
Catherine Malandrino Style de Paris (£50)
I love perfume and am always happy to try new scents. This is one I've never heard of but it smelt pretty nice through the packaging. It was disappointing however that all the perfume seemed to have leaked into the cap and the sample appeared to be empty.
Philip Kingsley Elasticizer (£27.50)
This is another product I've used before, and it wasn't exactly thrilled about it. Again it was a bit disappointing to receive a product I've already tried, but I've just started reverse washing, so I feel like I need to give it another go.
Whish Three Whishes Lavender Body Butter (£14.50)
I love lavender, so this was the one sample I was happy to receive. This smells sugary sweet rather than herbal, and it has a lovely thick, creamy texture.
Lord & Berry Couture Kohl Kajal Eye Pencil
I've never tried anything from Lord & Berry, but it seems to be a pretty common brand within the Birchbox. I'm not a huge kohl fan as I just never use it, so I'm not sure how much use I'll get out of it, but my hand swatch seems really long wearing.
An extract from A Perfect Heritage by Penny Vincenzi (£7.99)
This is quite a nice lifestyle extra to include, as I love a good book, and really like having a sample (like on iBooks) to test the waters.
Birchbox & Habitat Exclusive Notebook
I thought this seemed a bit pointless if I'm honest, as I never really make use of these teeny tiny notebooks. I'd much rather use the notes section on my iphone.
I thought the actual design of the box was lovely. I really like using these for storage, so a pretty design helps. I did notice that this month's goodies weren't in a drawstring bag, which was a bit disappointing as I find these really useful for keeping bits and bobs in around the house.
Overall I was pretty disappointed with 5/7 of my items, although I will make use of the Roller Lash and Elasticizer. It was a bonus disappointment that I didn't get to use my perfume sample. I felt that the Habitat collaboration fell a bit under par, with the contents not fitting it's theme. I felt it had the potential to deliver so much more. Honestly it has made me wonder whether I'll continue getting Birchbox. I love having them to blog about, but I don't seem to end up actually using the products that much.
What's your opinion of Birchbox?
This looks like such a great box Kirstie. Like you, I am loving my roller lash mascara and am so not looking forward to that running out. £19.50 is not a nice dent in your purse for one mascara is it? Would love to know your thoughts on the elasticizer in the end... it's a product i've looked into a lot lately :)

It's been great to get Roller Lash with this and with Elle, that's basically a full size mascara combined! I'm enjoying it still but I'd be intrigued to see whether I'll actually repurchase.
ReplyDeleteThe Elasticizer is very much one I'm still on the fence about! I'll try to do a blog post once I've actually worked out how I feel about it!
Loves! Kirstie Xx.
Definitely the best out of the three, I was scared that I'd get Bad Gal, which I hated! I always feel like other people get better boxes than me, this month I've avoided reading reviews before I opened mine so I didn't get my hopes up for anything like I did last month haha!

Love your honesty!
ReplyDeleteI've seen a lot of negative reviews about this month's BirchBox.
I almost signed up. Now, I'm glad that I waited.
I'll keep waiting until I see good reviews a few months in a row.
Thank you for the review!

Glad you found the post useful! I loved January's box, but found Feb & March didn't quite achieve the same standard. If April is rubbish I'm going to cancel I think. Boxes are so subjective though, some people have said my box looked great. It's so interesting to see what other people think :)

Hi Kirsty,
ReplyDeleteIt really means a lot that you've taken the time to comment on my post on behalf of Birchbox. I'll definitely drop you an email.
Thanks again,
Kirstie @ Kimamely Beauty
I think I would have liked to have tried the tanning oil, something a bit different. There should be a grazebox style rating system so if you say you don't like something they won't send you similar items in the future. Thanks for your comment :)
