Yankee Candle Sweet Treats Collection

You don't need to know me well to know that I'm candle obsessed, and I'm all for trying new scents. Yankee Candle's latest drop is Sweet Treats, a limited edition release to coincide with the Out of Africa Collection (which I have reviewed here). For Q3 (Quarter 3), we see a more autumnal vibe than Out of Africa, which was definitely more summery. Sweet Treats centres around gourmand fragrances; deep, rich and comforting. Cranberry Twist is the lightest, and fruitiest of the bunch, moving onto richer Vanilla Bourbon, laced with notes of sweet liquor, and then finally we have the indulgent Gingerbread Maple. I chose to test out the scents in votive form, as I've been loving the ambiance of a lit candle, and they are still super affordable at £1.80 a pop.

Yankee Candle Sweet Treats Collection Gingerbread Maple

Gingerbread Maple is described as "Baking spices, and the warm fragrance of cloves, with just a touch of maple, bring back memories of gingerbread cooling on cookie sheets". People have likened this to fresh scent Ginger Dusk, but to my nose it definitely is foodie. Gingerbread Maple is sweet and spicy, laden with ginger, but I don't think the maple comes through much. It just doesn't have that rich syrupy base to back it up, which I expected, and because of this it is rather a one-dimensional scent. It is pleasant, but perhaps not the most memorable scent. Maybe it performs better in tart form?

Yankee Candle Sweet Treats Collection Cranberry Twist

Cranberry Twist is the fruitiest in the collection. "A medley of sharp berries, a hint of citrus zest and a dash of fresh ginger make a refreshing concoction". I found Cranberry Twist very light in votive form, with a fruity scent of cranberry and lime. It almost has echoes of last year's limited edition Berrylicious, without the bakery notes. To me, this should have been a summer release, as I definitely associate the zingy, fizzy scent with fruity cocktails.

Yankee Candle Sweet Treats Collection Cranberry Twist Vanilla Bourbon

Lastly we come on to Vanilla Bourbon, "A traditional warm-me-up on a cold winter's day - a mug full of something steaming topped with a thick layer of vanilla cream and laced with a dash of bourbon". On cold sniff it smelt particularly toffee-like, and then once I'd taken the wrapper off I could really smell the sticky bourbon notes. Comforting and warm, the bourbon gives the scent some depth and takes away from some of the sweetness. This scent encompasses everything you'd think of when you say 'sweet treats'. Going out of the room and coming back in really makes you appreciate the sweet, caramel notes, and is the perfect accompaniment to a lazy autumn evening relaxing under the soft glow of some fairy lights. This is actually very similar to the Caramel Pecan scent from Our Own Candle Co, but I think I prefer this one as it is less heady.

Overall I think it'd be a toss-up between Vanilla Bourbon and Cranberry Twist for my favourite out of the collection; they're just so different. I've found Yankee Candle's releases a bit hit and miss this year, as very few scents have really amazed me. I do have high hopes for the Christmas collection though, which I will be getting my hands on soon for a cheeky giveaway. Watch this space.

If you could invent any candle scent, what would it be?
