Becca Cosmetics is a brand that I was completely new to, so when I saw that the Best of Becca Blushed Radiance Kit was available on Cult Beauty, it went straight into my basket without another thought. Priced at £28 for four travel size products, I thought this would be a great way to try a range of products before committing to a full size. Becca has been the name on everyone's lips since the Jaclyn Hill Champagne Pop collaboration, but I was wary of spending £30+ on something that could potentially be too warm for my skintone.
Starting off with base, we have a mini of the much hyped Backlight Priming Filter (worth £6.40, full size £32). This is an illuminating primer with subtle pigments that blur imperfections by refracting and diffusing light to give a soft focus finish to the skin. It has a lightweight texture and a little goes a long way, melting into the skin to give a fresh dewy base for makeup.
For me, this is slightly too dewy to use alone, and it accentuates the appearance of the pores that are either side of my nose, so I still like to use my Body Shop Instablur primer over the top of this on my T-Zone, which takes down some of the shine. Despite this, I love using the Backlight Priming Filter to give a healthy glow to the skin, it stops the skin from looking too flat when using a matte foundation. It isn't something I've been reaching for constantly, but it makes a nice addition to my makeup bag.
The next product is the generously sized Shimmering Skin Perfector Spotlight in Moonstone (worth around £10.40). This is a bit of an exclusive to this set as it isn't currently available to buy on it's own, which is a shame. This is a liquid highlight with a flat sponge applicator which makes it very easy to apply. It is a similar concept to Benefit High Beam, although I prefer the shade and applicator of this one. The applicator is brilliantly sized for use on the cupids bow, down the nose and along the brow bone, and its not so small that you can't swipe it on the tops of the cheekbones too.
This is great for a more natural daytime highlight or for layering underneath a powder for a more intense look. The shade of this is one of my favourite things about the product. The colour is is just so flattering. It is cooler than Opal, being a pale champagne with a beautiful golden iridescence running through it that makes it so unique. I'm obsessed with it and really want to pick up the Moonstone pressed highlighter.
Moving onto the two powder-based products, the first being the Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed (worth £9.60, full size £32) in the shade Opal. Opal is one of the brand's bestselling shades, and it is a warm peachy gold. The Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed formula has gotten a lot of hype over the last couple of months down to Champagne Pop, so I was really intrigued to try it for myself. The product is really highly pigmented, and really does create that gleaming highlight, however I expected it to be more buttery.
I was a bit worried that this would be too warm for me, but I can still get away with it. I do think that a cooler, lighter shade would give more of a pop though. One thing that I have been experimenting with is using this as an eyeshadow. I actually find it quite hard to find the perfect gold shadow, and being so pigmented, this gives an amazing metallic finish, especially when patted on the lid with a damp brush. I'd definitely pick this product for travel because it is so multi-purpose.
The final product in the set is the Mineral Blush in the shade Flowerchild (worth £10.40, full size £26). I never would have thought of Becca for a powder blush as they are more well known for their Beach Tints range of cream blushes, but I'm so impressed with this. Flowerchild, which also appears in the Afterglow palette, is such a beautiful peachy pink blush with golden shimmer. It's got that NARS Orgasm vibe about it but with much less shimmer, which makes it really wearable for everyday. It gives a really healthy glow, and it's all I've been reaching for since I got it!
This is such a gorgeous blush but sadly it's the only shade that really appeals to me out of the range. There is a lighter pink that could work, but the rest of them are quite bright so I feel like they aren't quite suitable for my skintone whereas for example Benefit's whole blush range is pretty universal. What is great however is the fact that they do cater for a wide range of skin tones. It would be great if they added some lighter, cooler tones to their whole range though, as I know I wouldn't be able to wear the majority of their blush and highlight shades.
Although when you break it down, there is only about a £7 saving, I think the Blushed Radiance Kit is brilliant value for money and it has given me the chance to try products I wouldn't have previously considered. My favourite products out of the kit are the Shimmering Skin Perfector Spotlight and the Mineral Blush, closely followed by the powder highlight, although I think I would get more use out of the Moonstone shade. I don't dislike the Backlight Priming Filter, I'm just not shouting from the rooftops about it, and that's probably because it's not aimed at my skin type.
I love the fact that Becca haven't compromised on the quality of the packaging given that these are travel sized products, the mini powder products are scaled down versions of the full size, and this pleases me greatly. I think Becca is a pricey brand, and do have a lot of hype attached to them but I do think the quality of their products matches the price, and I would definitely recommend picking up the set if you are new the brand. I'm really tempted to pick up the other Best of Becca set now!
HAVE YOU EVER TRIED ANYTHING FROM BECCA?
can you tell me if the lid on these products has that silver ring like the usual Becca packaging? or is it just a black plastic case that says Becca on top?
ReplyDeleteHi Patricia, yes they do have the silver ring. I believe they're just tiny versions of the full size packaging :)
