After much debating, I finally took the plunge and signed up to Birchbox, the beauty subscription service. This month I received my very first box. I was really impressed with how quickly it arrived, as the website said the boxes ship between the 10th and 20th of each month.
This month's collaboration was with Women's Health. It's January, everyone wants to get fit and healthy, so I guess they're just helping us along the line. Here's what I got in my box:
The first thing I saw was the Stila Lip Glaze. I've wanted to try these ever since I saw Stila advertised on a NY Cab in Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen. Yep Lindsay Lohan pre-meltdown. I was so happy to recieve a full size Lip Glaze in my box. The colour is a pretty, natural shade, with a hint of glitter. Hopefully this won't translate onto the lips too much. I can't wait to wear this and I think it'll be one of those I can keep in my handbag.
Next, I came across the Shaveworks The Cool Fix. I was happy to see this as it was something I wanted to try, although I probably wouldn't have paid full price for it at £11. This has a lovely fresh aloe scent and feels really cooling and soothing. I used this after I'd shaved my underarms as deodorant usually stings and this felt really moisturising. I think the size of this sample won't really suit legs, but definitely will be useful for the bikini line.
I felt a bit so-so about seeing a REN product as I'm pretty familiar with their products already. However I love masks so I didn't mind receiving their Glycolactic Radiance Renewal Mask. This is a sticky gel mask that smells like ginger, lemon and honey, amazing! I have a feeling this will be one I'll use when I have a cold! This left my skin feeling really smooth! I felt it was a little drying, but on my oily skin that wasn't a problem.
The box had a lovely sweet scent and I realised it was coming from the Beauty Protector Protect & Detangle. This is a leave-in conditioner, which is great as I was looking for one! This smells incredible, kind of sweet and musky and left my hair feeling soft and manageable. I didn't feel it detangled my hair all that well however and I thought the packaging felt a bit squashy and flimsy. Despite this, I'm happy to incorporate this into my blow-dry routine!
The final sample was the activbod Feel Great Shower Concentrate. I was pretty happy to see this as I don't like drugstore shower gels, I like something a little more luxe. I have more baths than showers so I'm not in a hurry to use this up, and I have about 100 other shower gels. However this smells so fresh! It's kind of minty and aquatic and I reckon it'd be great for a sleepy morning.
I was really excited to see the sachet of embrace Matcha Green Tea, however I did think it was going to be bigger as it only had enough for one use. I split it, using half in my Green MATCH-one juice and half whisked into hot water. I liked it's pure taste, much better than conventional green tea. I do want to buy some, but it's just so expensive!
The box also came with a little booklet of fitness/healthy eating tips from Women's Health. This was a nice touch, and some really useful ideas. There's also a voucher for a half-price subscription to the magazine. While I don't think I'll sign up, if I can still get my hands on the Women's Health with Millie Mackintosh, I'll definitely be picking that up.
Overall I'm pretty happy with my first Birchbox! This is just a first-impressions so you'll have to keep your eyes peeled for some of these in my empties posts for my true opinions. I can't wait for February's box. What can I say, I'm a Birchbox convert!
