Winter Evening Skincare Routine

27 February 2015

When it comes to skincare, I used to be all about the quick and easy. Now I love taking my time and experiencing all the luxurious scents of the different products. Despite my oily skin, I'm all about hydrating and replenishing, so I've chosen products that are a lot more moisturising than their daytime counterparts, which you can read about in this post.

If makeup is involved, I'll start with The Body Shop Cammomile Sumptuous Cleansing Butter. I like to scoop a bit out and warm it between my palms. I use the oil on one hand to massage the product into my face, and then the other I use to target any eye makeup I've got going on. This all gets removed with a muslin cloth.

I've really embraced the double cleanse lately, so I'll go in with the Superfacialist by Una Brennan Rose Hydrate Calming Creamy Cleanser. This stuff smells incredible! It has a super fresh rosy scent, that I love to inhale as I massage it into the skin before it gets removed, again with a muslin cloth. This cleanser is fab as it is so nourishing. This is also the step I skip to if I'm having a no-makeup day.

Next up is toning, and I've tried to pick one that isn't too harsh on the skin. The Liz Earle Instant Boost [Skin Tonic] is described as a tonic rather than a toner, as it is hydrating whilst still removing any leftover oils, grime etc from your cleanse. It smells beautiful, and is still one of my favourite toners to date, despite being the very first one I tried. I just pop a small amount on a cotton face pad and sweet it over my face and neck.

As far as moisturising goes, I have quite oily skin, so traditional night creams are often too heavy for me. What I do like, however, is an oil. This one isn't a specialised facial oil, but the Nuxe Huile Prodigiieuse really goes a long way to soften my skin overnight. It is a blend of different oils that not only smells beautiful, it is brilliant on the body too. Who doesn't love a good old multipurpose? I do two pumps of this into my hands and sweep over my face and neck.

Once my skin has drank up all that oily goodness, I go in with the last step of my evening skincare routine. I'm currently using the last of the Nip+Fab Bee Sting Fix Eye, a beautifully textured eye cream. I use a small amount to target my undereye area, lids and up to the brow bone. After that, I'm feeling pampered and de-stressed, ready to snuggle into bed for a night of kip.

What's your favourite evening skincare step?
