I was pretty impressed with how quick this month's Birchbox arrived. I'd seen previews of the box, and was really excited to open my box, however I was disappointed that the contents of my box was different. This month, Birchbox launched their letterbox friendly boxes, however I've been using my boxes to organise my makeup drawer, so I opted to continue with the original sizes.
The theme of the February Birchbox is love, in honor of Valentines day. They've included tips for getting ready for date night, as well as a rundown of Caudalie products, and 6 ways to use coconut oil. I thought the postcard booklet is so cute this month and the brightly coloured cards will most likely be appearing in the background of future blog photos.
So onto the products...
London Butterflies Bath Salt Scrub
This was the first product I laid my eyes on. I love a good salt scrub and this one seems like it'll do the job. It's pricey full size for such basic ingredients of sea salt and almond oil, however. It does smell lovely though, a really gentle fragrance.
Eyeko Fat Eye Stick in Gilt
I love a good shadow stick to use as a base for eyeshadow, so I'm sure this won't go to waste. On first impressions, the colour is on the dirty bronze side of things, so not my first choice, and very similar to the Gosh Forever Shadow Stick in Brown. However on using this, I can't fault the shade. It is a gorgeous dirty gold, which is easily buildable on the lid, and will be great for an everyday look or as a base for other shadows.
Electric Hair Hydrate Shampoo
Honestly I was a bit disappointed to receive the Liz Earle shampoo. I've never heard of the brand Electric Hair, so I'm intrigued so see how this compares to my current hair fave, one of the Lush solid shampoo bars. I like the smell of this shampoo. This sample is very small though, so I don't think it'll lays more than two washes.
theBalm Stainiac in Beauty Queen
This is very similar to Benetint by Benefit, which I've never tried. I wasn't overly excited to receive this as I'd have much preferred the Cindy-Lou Manizer that I've seen others have received. However when I tried this I was pretty impressed. It is gorgeous on the cheeks and is the most perfect shade for my lips!
Caudalie Vinoperfect Radiance Serum
This was the one item I was really happy to get in this month's Birchbox. It's great to get a skincare sample as full size they're usually so expensive so probably wouldn't otherwise try it. I don't own a serum, so this should slot pretty easily into my existing skincare routine. As soon as I'd applied this, my parents commented on how radiant my skin looked, so I think this will be great for winter when things get a bit dull.
Vita Coco Coconut Oil
I would have been super happy to get this in my box, however I literally just bought a tub of coconut oil for cooking, and already have some for beauty purposes. I think this will end up going to my mum as she adores everything coconut.
So I missed out on the Liz Earle shampoo, the Cindy-Lou Manizer and the Darjeeling cream, which was annoying, but I feel like I misjudged this months box. When I used my two makeup items I actually really liked them, so that made me like this box a whole lot more! Next month I'm going to stay clear of any reviews so I don't get my hopes up for anything!
I've never been tempted by the monthly subscription packages but I can definitely see the attraction. I'd worry I would end up with a draw full of products that don't get used. I do like the sound Caudalie Vinoperfect Radiance Serum but boy that is quite pricey. Depends how long the tube would last I suppose.
ReplyDeleteI'm all for getting minis as I never seem to use things up, I can make things last forever! Honestly even if I'm not keen on something on first impressions, I usually end up getting some use out of it :)

I'm dying to get some coconut oil for my skin, I've heard its fab as a make-up remover/pre-cleanse :)

I actually don't use coconut oil much for its beauty benefits, however I can imagine it makes a great cleansing balm :)
