Sometimes we don't appreciate something until it is almost gone. With autumn around the corner, one half of me is excited for the prospect of cosy cashmere knits, knee high boots and scarves, the other half of me is going into a state of panic thinking about all the gorgeous summer scents I'll be leaving behind. Whilst I'm not afraid to rock a coconut scent in November, it really isn't the same. With only a few sacred days of summer left, I'm frantically using a select few products at every opportunity I can, to savour the scents.
After a lengthly flight, all you want to do is relax and recooperate in a luxurious hotel room. Yves Rocher Monoi de Tahiti Lagoon Hair & Body Wash* (£3.20) smells like a product you would find in a posh hotel in the Caribbean, with a scent that combines exotic coconut and sophisticated florals. This makes it my product of choice for drifting away from the grey UK days.
Next up is one that is pure beachy goodness, Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess. Unfortunately I didn't pick up this year's edition like I'd originally planned, as I didn't enjoy the exaggeration of the citrus notes. I do however still have a bottle of the long discontinued Luminous Body Lotion lurking around. I'd never really gotten into body lotion versions of fragrances, but this is actually really strong and the scent keeps on giving for hours on end. This is a product I really hope Estee Lauder recycle for their future Bronze Goddess collections, as it is beautifully lightweight with a subtle shimmer that even makes my pasty white limbs glow. As for the scent, it is coconuts and gardenias galore, and smells like a day at the beach. I haven't had the chance to go on holiday this year, but this is the next best thing!
One with a similar coconutty vibe is from a brand that has now become a summer ritual, Hawaiian Tropic. On holidays, I slather myself with their dry oil SPF sprays, and soothe my skin with the scent of exotic coconut. The After Sun Body Butter (currently £5) is an awesome way to warn off any peeling bits of tan post-bake. It has a lovely creamy yet lightweight texture and the scent instantly takes me back to the beach. Hawaiian Tropic is a brand I've used for near on ten years, and I'll be sticking with it for years to come.
After coming home from the beach and having a quick spruce up, it is time for cocktails. My beverage of choice is a mojito, and it just so happens to coincide with The Body Shop's summer launch. The Virgin Mojito Body Sorbet (£8) is zingy and fresh, and cools down aching limbs like no other. I love to pop it in the fridge and pretend I'm sipping an iced cocktail in a bar overlooking the ocean.
If you didn't go away this summer, there is still time to grab these products and pretend you are on an island far away! Although I'm excited for cosy autumn days to roll around, I'm still going to try to get away with dousing up on the Bronze Goddess for as long as I can get away with!
