I've got the serious decluttering bug right now, and the amount of candles and wax tarts I own is quite frankly starting to scare me. I really need to get a wiggle on and actually use some of them. I love testing out the new Yankee Candle releases, but then I neglect the older scents, so now my stash of half used tarts and votives is starting to take over. In favour of reducing my stash, here's a look at what I've been burning recently.
A votive of the recently retired scent Lilac Blossoms (£1.95, TheStore91) accompanied a lazy Sunday spent blogging. Described as "An alluring grove of lavender, white and deep purple lilacs", Lilac Blossoms isn't my favourite Yankee scent, as it find it quite sharp and heavy on the pollen. It definitely is true to life. It reminds me of the kind of perfume a grandma would wear, so perhaps someone more mature would be better suited to this scent. I prefer the more mellow daisy scent of Loves Me, Loves Me Not, but I just wanted to use this one up.
Baby Powder (votive, £1.80) is a scent that has always had me quite confused. Sometimes I'll absolutely love it, and others I'll find it a bit overpowering. Yankee describe it as "A soothing, fresh scent that gently cleanses the spirit and gives it a soft touch of innocence." The votive had a great scent throw after about an hour of burning, and managed to fill my whole living room. I'd choose this soft and cuddly scent to use after a bath as it is really relaxing.
I took the label off this candle, so I have used the Lemon Pound Cake jar in the photo above. Our Own Candle Company is a super affordable brand that doesn't get as much attention as it should. They make soy wax and paraffin candles in mason jars, which look so cute and on-trend! Their candles pool really quickly and have a really even burn. I have the Caramel Pecan Mini Mason candle (£3.99), which is said to have a burn time of 25-30 hours, but larger jars are also available for £9.99. The Caramel Pecan scent is rich and sugary, with good throw, and makes for a lovely cosy evening burn.
This could be the item that started off my obsession with fig scents. I've had this candle for such a long time, and the label on the tin started to look less than fresh, so I transformed it with a spot of marble sticky back plastic. Fancy eh? On to the scent, and Mellow Figs & Garden Mint (£6.99) is a fresh rather than fruity fig. I often use this is in the kitchen to banish cooking smells, and it fragrances the air without even being lit if you leave the lid off.
A lazy weekend soak in the tub with a luxuriously scented bath oil was accompanied by Glade Spiced Pomegranate. I love the whole range of Glade candles for bath time as the light reflects beautifully through the jars onto the water. Spiced Pomegranate is one of my favourite Glade scents, and was part of one of their winter ranges, however because of the lack of spice, the scent has transcended a multitude of seasons. I've almost used up this candle, and I don't think I'll be able to get my hands on another sadly. I think I will keep the jar to use as a tea-light holder, as it looks so pretty on the side of the bath.
