I feel like winter has been such a long season, but what that does mean is a hella lot of lip colours were worn during that time. I went through my makeup bag, Muji drawers and various handbags to collect together the products that I have been wearing the most. I've had a real thing for lip liners and lipsticks and have barely touched a gloss or tinted balm all season, which is very rare for me!
Right back at the start of the season, I picked up one of the Clinique Pop Lip Colour & Prime Lipsticks (£16 full size) when they collaborated with Glamour Magazine to offer it as a freebie with their December issue. There was a choice of a red or a nude, so I chose Cherry Pop. It's not hard to guess that it is a cherry red shade! This glides on to the lips so easily, is comfortable to wear and long-lasting, although I always prefer a moisturising formula in a lighter shade like a peach or nude.
Burberry Lip Velvet (£26) in the shade Oxblood (read the full review) has fast become a staple in my Winter lipstick wardrobe after its début at LFW SS16, along with the GOSH Velvet Touch Lip Liner (£4.99) in Cardinal Red which is a perfect match. These lip liners have such a comfortable creamy formula for the price, and make the matte Burberry lipstick even more long wearing.
Still my all-time favourite nude, Calvin Klein Pure Color Lipstick in Brainiac has just the right balance of cool and warm tones so that I don't look washed out. This season I strayed from this kind of nude to try a more mauvey brown shade, and the Max Factor Colour Elixir Lipstick (£7.99) in Rosewood is one I mentioned in my Autumn Drugstore Lip Edit. The Chanel Rouge Coco Shine (£25) in Boy is one that is similar to Rosewood, yet a bit more mauve, a bit more sheer and a lot more luxe! This has permanently set up camp in my handbag and I regret not buying it sooner.
A shade I wore consistently over the festive period for the second year in a row was the Rimmel Provocalips 16-hour Kissproof Colour (£6.99) in Kiss Me You Fool. This is a dual ended liquid lipsticks, with the colour on one end and a clear sealant on the other. This has some of the best longevity of any liquid lipstick, and it withstands meals, drinks. It's one of the easiest ways to wear a classic red lip.
The Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet (£8.99) in Nude-ist! is still one of my favourites, and one I call upon when I want a fail-safe, long-lasting nude shade. I've been pairing it with the Rimmel Exaggerate Lip Liner (£3.99) in Eastend Snob. Another lipstick I've been pairing with Eastend Snob is Chanel Rouge Coco (£26) in Magnolia. I picked up this medium pink shade with subtle gold shimmer towards the end of last year but it didn't quite work on it's own on my lips, however layered with the lip liner, it's perfect.
I haven't been rocking the dark berry lips as much as I have done in previous winters, and have surprisingly really favoured the nude tones. I'm so glad that winter is almost over and that we are one step closer to spring. It's been so much sunnier recently, which has been amazing for taking photos, and it's also making me want to completely change up my wardrobe in favour of something more spring-esque. I'll be back in a couple of weeks with a Winter to Spring Lip Line-up as it feels like such a long time just doing these seasonally!
