It's that time once again where I sit down to chat about a few of the perfumes that I've been wearing recently. A lot of the time, I'll test out scents for posts either on my skin or on paper blotters, but it takes a lot for a scent to find a place in my rotation and be worn on a normal day. I'm also going to be talking about a few perfume samples that I've been trying out too, one that gets a big thumbs up, and one that really doesn't - I really am picky when it comes to scent!
The Perfumes
Now that the weather is a little a lot colder, you can get away with wearing slightly heavier scents. One that I've been saving for this time of year is L'Occitane Neroli & Orchidée* (reviewed here). This long-lasting scent has notes of neroli, fig milk, peach, orchid and musk. It's a really luxurious, feminine floral scent, that is fairly strong so really works well in the colder weather. It's a scent that makes me feel like I've got my shit together (which I really don't, fyi), so if you need to boss a situation, I'd choose this! When I want something a little lighter, I reach for the So...? Floriental Body Mist*, one of my favourites out of the range (full review here). It has notes of pear, apple, freesia, and violet, as well as a base of caramel and amber which adds a little sweetness and sophistication to the humble body mist.
The Candles
In the run up to Christmas, I was burning a lot of candles, especially those with rich spicy scents. Now that we're well into the new year, I've not been craving candles as much but one scent that I've been obsessed with is Yankee Candle Macaron Treats. I think this was a Christmas release, but I'd totally eat macrons all year round, so why wouldn't I want my house to smell of them throughout the year too. This smells exactly like macarons, sweet and indulgent with the scent of almond, vanilla and cocoa. It's SO delicious! This is actually the first time that I tried Yankee Candle's tea lights and I really like them. My favourite time to burn candles is before bed on my bedside table, so I don't need anything crazy strong, and each one lasts around 4-6 hour so it means I can switch up my scents every couple of days without having half-burned votives all over the place.
The Samples
Lastly, I wanted to give my two scents on a couple of perfumes I sampled recently. I'd already tried Marc Jacobs Divine Decadence for my Perfume Society Scents of Style review, but this was the first time I'd properly worn it. It is sweet and syrupy, with vanilla and champagne, paired with white florals, to the point of being gourmand on me. Definitely not what I expected and I'm not sure it's my cup of tea. I had more luck with Jo Malone Mimosa & Cardamom, of which I found a sample whilst leafing through some old Vogue magazines. I found the opening a little generic, but I really adored the cardamom that comes through - it's so unique! It's such a warm, comforting scent that will definitely be added to my collection this year.
