"Irresistible" and "me" aren't two words I usually put next to one another, because let's face it, I'm anything but irresistible. Now that we've got all puns out of the way (the title, I couldn't resist), what I am going to be talking about is my first foray into hair extensions. Not something I would usually be into, but if my current situation is anything to go by, I sure believe in taking chances. As someone with very fine hair, these seemed like they could be something of a revelation.
Irresistible Me is a New York-based company specialising in quality hair extensions. As an absolute extensions virgin, I was really confused with what seemed like gazillions of options. Thankfully there are some really useful resources to help narrow down your choices. Irresistible Me have worked with a whole host of successful bloggers and vloggers, and I found their videos a real help in determining lengths and colours.
I wanted something to add volume primarily, as well as a small amount of length, so I went for the 16 inch Silky Touch Clip-in Extensions* (RRP $79/approx £60 inc. UK shipping). Silky Touch is Irresistible Me's best-selling and cheapest line, made from 100% Remy hair. This refers to the highest grade of human hair, the gold-standard for wigs and extensions. What sets Remy hair apart is the fact that the cuticle remains intact, so it aligns in a uniform way giving the hair the most natural look, as well as being soft, shiny and tangle-free.
I chose the shade Silky Chocolate Brown, which is the most perfect colour match for me. In case you are worried, all Irresistible Me extensions come with a sample piece, so you can assess the colour and length before trying the whole lot. Being human hair however, the extensions are dyeable, so if you have an obscure colour, you don't have to miss out on the fun.
My current hair situation is that I have quite a lot of fine hair. This means that whilst it's really easy to add volume to the lengths with products like texturising sprays, I struggle to keep it at the roots. I didn't want to go for anything too heavy extension-wise; the heavier the hair, the thicker it will look, and I wanted to keep it as natural as possible. The 16 inch extensions come in the option of 100g, 140g, and 200g. Because I wanted both volume and length, as well as being concerned about my fine hair, the lovely Madison from Irresistible Me HQ advised the 140g pack.

For me, the main area lacking volume is the roots. I did find it quite hard to blend in the clip in some parts. For that reason, I found wearing all of the back pieces a bit too heavy for my hair. Missing out a few pieces made the lengths look a bit sparse so I'm considering trimming the extensions to wear purely for adding volume. I've loved just adding the front 1 clip pieces to add a really subtle amount of extra volume.
After: Probably should have contoured, #moonface |
Overall I was particularly impressed with the colour match of the Irresistible Me extensions. I almost couldn't tell the difference between the extensions and my own hair! It feels so nice to have a bit of extra length to play around with. They were a dream to curl, although I confess that I am horrendous at styling! I think once I get my hair cut and the lengths trimmed out, the extensions will blend in even more. I better get practising with the curling wand!
