The Spring Skincare Shelf

The Skincare Shelf

Skincare for me is a ritual, an essential part of my evening relaxation routine, it allows me to reflect on my day and prepare me for going to sleep. There's nothing I love more than chatting about my favourite skincare products (other than buying new skincare of course), and so here we have The Skincare Shelf, a monthly look at the newest and most loved skincare items in my stash. I got a little bored of the monthly favourites format, and so you'll instead be seeing the skincare favourites here, as well as my everyday beauty faves in Beauty Tous Les Jours.

The Skincare Shelf Liz Earle Cleanse Polish Rose Cedrat

If you know me, you'll know that my all-time favourite cleanser is Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish. I finished a tube not that long ago and finally managed to pick up one of the limited edition scents, Rose & Cedrat (£20.75). This is a fresh and zesty rose scent, perfect for springtime and great for waking you up on sleepy mornings. I also love this cleanser for the evenings, it's also amazing for taking makeup off. If I could only own one, this would be it as it does everything I need from a cleanser.

The Skincare Shelf Merumaya Melting Cleansing Balm

Despite that bold statement, I do have other cleansers on the go, and one is the Merumaya Melting Cleansing Balm* (£16.50). If I'm not using Cleanse & Polish, I like to use an oil-based balm cleanser to take off my makeup, and this is one I've been trialling out recently. I'm coming to the end of my Emma Hardie Cleansing Balm, and I couldn't help cracking this open early. As far as removing makeup goes, it does struggle slightly with my mascara so I'll have to invest in some kind of eye makeup remover to use beforehand. Fortunately as with all Merumaya products, it smells amazing, and it leaves my skin baby soft.

The Skincare Shelf Superdrug Vitamin E Gentle Oatmeal Exfoliator

Although I've been loving the Merumaya Gentle Exfoliating Toner (read the review here), I still love having a physical exfoliant. I don't use a lot of drugstore skincare, but I was on the lookout for an affordable scrub when I came across the Superdrug Vitamin E Gentle Oatmeal Exfoliator (£2.99).

This has walnut exfoliants immersed within a creamy base which, when used with the Merumaya Manual Cleansing Brush (mentioned in this post), give a really satisfying yet gentle scrub. I love using this brush as it is so much more kind to the skin than scrubbing with your hands. I wouldn't usually go for a Superdrug own range product, but this is so lovely. It smells amazing and feels really luxurious too. I would never have guessed it was so affordable!

The Skincare Shelf Quick Fix Facials Purifying Charcoal Mask

Moving on to masks, and I'm on the eternal quest to find the perfect mud/clay formula for my blackheads. Recently I've been loving the Quick Fix Facials Purifying Charcoal Mask (£4.99) which I reviewed alongside their Brightening Peel Mask here. This feels really cooling when applied to the skin, doesn't dry to an uncomfortable finish and leaves my skin looking clear and smooth. I also weirdly enjoy the smell, as it contains cinnamon extract.

The Skincare Shelf Origins Intensive Drink Up

On the other end of the mask spectrum we have the Origins Drink Up Intensive Overnight Mask (£23 full size). I previously disregarded this for being too heavy for my oily skin, but now it has become a bit more dehydrated, I've been really enjoying using this overnight. Used in a similar way to a night cream, this is amazing for adding some much needed nourishment back to the skin and it gives an immediate glow unlike no other. I like to use this if I've been a bit lazy on the moisturising front, or I know I'll be wearing a lot of makeup the next day.
