A few weeks ago, I got an invitation in my inbox that I could not refuse. I was invited to the World Duty Free #JetSetTour event at Birmingham International airport. The team kindly sent a car to pick up myself and blogger chum Emmie (Carpe Diem Emmie), and after a quick detour because someone forgot her passport (spoiler, it wasn't me), we were on our way to the airport. The idea was to pretend we were going on holiday, slightly gutting when you're not actually jetting off somewhere hot. It was all too tempting to sneak on a plane to the Maldives/Santorini/other equally as fancy holiday destination...
Birmingham International Airport is one of the largest in the UK, and it now has two World Duty Free stores. The main one has had a bit of a revamp, and is now home to a few new retailers, including Bobbi Brown, Jo Malone and Urban Decay. World Duty Free are currently running their #JetSetTour campaign, in collaboration with celebrity makeup artist and vlogger Harry Makes It Up, which showcases some of the key beauty items for the summer.
On arrival, we were greeted by Caroline, the lovely World Duty Free PR, and escorted through security via a secret passageway, which was rather exciting. There was champagne, canapes and most excitingly, a beautiful selection of travel-themed biscuits from The Biscuiteers. I've heard so many people talk about these and oh my word, they were delicious!
The first stop was the Urban Decay counter. I've only tried a few bits from the range so I was looking forward to having a real nosey at the products. I was particularly excited about their new Vice lipstick launch. The brand has completely revamped their existing lipstick line and launched 100 new lipsticks in 6 finishes - Mega Matte, Comfort Matte, Cream, Metallized, Sheer and Sheer Shimmer. The one that caught my eye and came home with me, was the shade Stark Naked*, a warm nude in a comfort matte finish. I also really regretted not picking up Back Talk, a pinky/purpley nude shade that one of the Urban Decay girls was wearing on her lips.
We were also treated to a hand massage from Jo Malone. Even though I'm a huge perfume lover, I have never found Jo Malone stores to be the most approachable, and so many times I've felt like I don't belong there. I was pleasantly surprised as the girls were really lovely and friendly, offering advice on everything from which scents to wear at specific occasions to fragrance combining. It's such a lovely touch to have a Jo Malone at Duty Free as I can't think of anything more indulgent that getting a hand massage and selecting that all important new holiday fragrance. I knew at once that I was going to pick up Wood Sage and Sea Salt* as I have wanted it ever since it launched, and I haven't regretted it once, it is absolutely beautiful.
The event was one of the best I've been to as we were so well looked after, and it was so nice to be truly pampered. All the girls at World Duty Free were wonderful, and I felt really grateful for being one of the few they chose for the opportunity. I actually vlogged the day, so if you want to see more of what we got up to, then you can give that a watch below:
We were also kindly given some gift vouchers to spend at the World Duty Free Store and it was a hard choice choosing between everything, especially because we didn't have a lot of time! I initially wanted to scope out the miniature perfumes as I love anything in miniature, but I didn’t love the selection sadly. I ended up heading to the YSL counter, which is a brand I hadn't previously explored, and I picked up a couple of bits of makeup that I wouldn't usually be able to justify. I went for the Babydoll Mascara* as well as one of the Rouge Volupté Shine lipsticks* in the shade Nude Lavalliere. I've been really impressed by both products, and it definitely makes me want to invest in more YSL beauty.
We also had the most generous goodie bag, which contained a selection of the products that Harry used to create the summer looks. She actually gave me a subtle ombré lip, so I was really excited to see the Lancome Juicy Shaker in Mangoes Wild* that she used included. Another really exciting product is the travel exclusive NARS Narsissist Jetsetter Eye Lip & Cheek Set* which contains everything you'd need for a post-flight touch up, with a mini Laguna Bronzer, Orgasm Blush, 3 eye shadows and a lip gloss.
The star of the show really is the Urban Decay XX Vice Ltd Reloaded Palette*. This again is limited edition and was 20 years in the making as it contains some of the bestselling shades from the last 20 years. Vice palettes are notorious for being a little less wearable compared to the naked palettes, but this one has a great balance between neutrals, muted purples, rusty shades and greens, which are perfect for bringing out the green in my hazel eyes, as well as some crazier blues and a particularly vivid gold. This is great starter palette to experiment if you are a neutral lover, as you can add a subtle hint of colour.
I actually put together a makeup look using this palette as well as some of the other products, inspired by Harry's subtle bright summer looks for World Duty Free.
