3 Product Smoky Eye

21 September 2014

Today's look is inspired by two YouTube tutorials I recently watched, the Bobbi Brown super-easy smoky eye, and a Cheryl Cole look Lisa Eldridge did for the cover of Elle. I was shopping earlier on today and came across the Gosh Forever  shadow sticks and thought the deep, metallic, taupey shade of Brown would be amazing smudged across the lid.

The Eyes

I've managed to create this look with 3 core products. I've used a few other basic ones too, but I think you'll agree that this is definitely an easy one.

3 Core Products...

GOSH Forever Eye Shadow in Brown
Rimmel Scandaleyes Khol Liner in Black
GOSH Velvet Touch eye liner in Truely Brown

I started off by prepping the lid as always with the Urban Decay Primer Potion. I smudged the GOSH Forever Eye Shadow in Brown all over the lid, blending out around the edges to create an even wash of colour. I also took some of this shade below the eyes. I made a thick line on the lash line/lid with the GOSH Velvet Touch eye liner in Truely Brown and smudged it with the Urban Decay 24/7 Smudge Brush

I lined the waterline and tightline with the Rimmel Scandaleyes Khol Liner in Black, and then took some to the upper lash line. Again, I blended these out using the Urban Decay brush. I used a fluffy brush to blend it all to make sure it was even. For the lashes, I used the Max Factor Masterpiece Mascara. You want the lashes to be able to stand up to this strong look, the blackest of black mascaras will be your best friend here. Finally, I used a tiny bit of the highlighter in the Bourjois Delice de Poudre Bronzing Duo on the inner corner and brow bone. This really stands out as it's a very white-based highlighter, rather than champagne toned.

The Face

I wanted a pretty full coverage base, so I went with the Maybelline Dream Satin Liquid, which gives a healthy finish. I applied this with the Real Techniques Expert Face Brush. I wanted my under-eyes to be really bright against the dark eye, so I used the L'Oreal Lumi Magique Concealer to get rid of any dark circles. I didn't use any blush for this look, but I warmed up my complexion and slightly contoured with the Bourjois Delice de Poudre Bronzing Duo, adding a little of the highlighter on the cheekbones.

The Brows

I wanted a pretty strong brow to balance out this look, and used my current staple, the Eylure Brow Crayon in Dark Brown to fill in and define my eyebrows.

The Lips

I think a nude lip works best with this strong eye look, so I dabbed a little concealer on the lips to neutralise any red tones, and buffed in a small amount of the Tanya Burr Lipgloss in First Date. This gave a pretty, glossy finish to complement the smoky eye.

I think this is a great look if you're strapped for time, and is also really glamorous for a big night out. I love that it also feels very easy and lived in.

Would you try this look?
